Location
The best place for a shed is a protected environment out of the way of high winds or storms. Make sure you will be able to access your shed once in situ, and try to tie it in with the height of the surrounding fences or trees. It is usual that people find larger sheds more useful – they tend to fill up very quickly! If you are torn between to locations, we would recommend you pick the larger.
How will you use the shed?
As mentioned there are many sheds available. A shed intended simply for storage means you can choose anything from from a small lean to to something much larger. If you are planning to spend time in it yourself however think about incorporating some extra additions such as and electrical outlet or window.
Security
Theft from garden sheds is unfortunately becoming increasingly common. Consequently some suppliers are now incorporating extra security mechanisms into their sheds, such as more robust walls and higher windows, in addition to a standard lock.
Doors
Plastic sheds tend to come with double doors – however there are also some single doored options available.
Roof Styles
The most frequently seen types are Apex, Flat and Pent. Keep in mind the height of your chosen location when considering these, however in terms of their durability and performance they are the same.
Would you be willing to construct the shed yourself?
As discussed above options can vary from constructed and delivered from the supplier, partially built structures in a kit, or a complete DIY project. The more work you do the less the cost will be, however we would tend to recommend the partially built option unless you are very competent.
